The project started from an existing family house with a small floor area, which we expanded to create a holiday home. We wanted to keep the original house as much as possible in order to reduce the building’s carbon footprint. Starting from the elongated plot, we planned the expansion of the building in the direction of the garden, so that the parking space could remain next to it.

We showed the relationship between the old and new parts of the building with the standing seam distances of the new, modern metal roofing. They are more densely located in the new part of the building, while less often in the old part. We wanted to minimize the amount and size of the openings on the side of the house so that the main focus is on the huge glass surfaces at the ends of the building.
The entrance from the side terrace is located in the middle of the side of the house, from which we arrive directly to the center of the house. The existing building had a ground floor and an additional attic space, which we opened up and replaced with visible pairs of wooden beams in order to increase the space experience. In order to make full use of the small floor area, the interior walls were demolished and divided into well-usable spaces. The interior of the house can be divided into two parts, the space across the street, divided by partition walls, where the bedroom, study, bathroom and wardrobe are located, and the open space of the kitchen, dining room and living room. The covered, open terrace opens from the living room, from which the garden can be easily reached. We connected this terrace to the side garden with a paved surface, thus creating a walkable area around the house.
